Equipment

Ingredients

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon water

Boiling Water

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, add the sugar, yeast, and water. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes. Frothy bubbles will form as the yeast blooms.
  • To the yeast mixture, add all-purpose flour and salt. Stir lightly for 1 minute
  • Use your hands, lightly knead the dough. Roll the dough into itself and place it in an oiled bowl.
  • Cover the bowl with a damp towel. Let dough rise for 1 hour, it will double in size.
  • Once dough is doubled in size, on a lightly floured surface, cut the dough into 8 even pieces. Form each dough into a ball by tucking in the edges of the cuts and rounding out on a flat surface.
  • Using your floured thumb and middle finger, create a hole in the center of the bagel and then lightly stretch the hole open about an inch
  • Over medium/high heat, bring a large stockpot of water and baking soda to boiling, then reduce the heat to low. Place each bagel in the hot water to bath for 1-2 minutes on each side. The longer the bagel soaks, the chewier the results.
  • Remove the bagels from the hot water bath. Brush each bagel with the egg wash( recipe below). Season the bagels with 1 Tablespoon each of Everything Bagel Seasoning or toppings of your choice.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with oil. Place basket in the air fryer.
  • Air fry at 350°F for about 10 minutes. Bagels will be cooked through and ready to eat.

Egg Wash

  • In a small bowl, whip together egg and water until well combined.
