Pecan Praline Glazed Ham

Pecan Praline Glazed Ham is a showstopper! A sweet glaze made of butter and maple syrups gets baked into the ham before getting a coat of crushed pecans and brown sugar.  Add sweet potatoes around the ham while baking to soak up all that pecan praline goodness.

Ingredients

  • 9-12 pound bone-in, spiral ham
  • 8 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup maple syrup divided
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup crushed pecans
  • 2 large sweet potatoes peeled and chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F/163°C. Be sure oven rack is in the center of the oven.
  • Remove ham from the package and discard the liquid from the packaging. Place the ham cut side down in a large baking dish or roasting pan.
  • Place cut sweet potatoes in the pan around the ham. Set aside.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt 4 Tablespoons of butter.
  • Stir in ½ cup of maple syrup to the melted butter.
  • Brush the melted butter syrup on to the spiral ham.
  • Place the prepared ham into the preheated oven to bake for 1 ½ hours.
  • When it has 30 minutes left to cook, remove it from the oven. Set aside.
  • In a small mixing bowl, stir together brown sugar and pecans.
  • Place this mixture all over the ham. Return the ham back to the oven to finish cooking.
  • To make the final glaze, In a small saucepan over medium heat combine remaining 4 Tablespoons of butter and the remaining ½ cup of maple syrup.
  • While whisking, bring this mixture up to a slight bubble and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Remove ham from the oven and drizzle the ham with the glaze.
  • Slice and serve.

Notes

Tips: 
  • Before cooking make sure there is no plastic cap on the bone on the cut side of the ham.
  • Store leftovers in a covered airtight container for up to 3-5 days.
  • You can also store your leftover ham in the freezer for up to 2 months.
  • You can cook this in the slow cooker. Just remove it from the slow cooker and add the pecans and brown sugar and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
  • You can add carrots to the sweet potatoes as well.
  • A dash of vanilla or cinnamon would also be lovely in this dish.
  • While maple syrup is delicious if all you have is pancake syrup that will work too.
