Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 ground beef is our choice
  • 1 small onion, peeled and diced
  • cup Thousand Island Dressing
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon corn starch
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 8-10 slices American cheese
  • shredded lettuce, optional topping
  • pickles, optional topping
  • 8-10 sesame seed buns

Instructions

  • In a large skillet combine ground beef and onions. Cook over medium-high heat until meat is browned. Drain and discard excess grease.
  • To the meat mixture in the pan add Thousand Island dressing, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  • In a small bowl combine cornstarch and beef broth.
  • Add the broth mixture to the pan over medium-high heat and stir until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  • To serve, place a slice of American cheese on a bottom bun, then add a bit of the meat mixture. 
  • Next, add the bottom bun of another set of buns and then add more meat to the top of that bun.
  • Add another slice of cheese. Top with shredded lettuce, pickles, and more dressing if you like.
  • Top with the top of the bun.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Storage:  This recipe will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. It can also be frozen for up to 2 months. I recommend that you store these sandwiches unassembled.
Make ahead: You can brown the meat, onions, and dressing beforehand and freeze for when you are ready to throw everything in the pan.
You can make these without the signature Big Mac middle bun and they will be just as delicious.
