These Oven Baked BBQ Chicken Wings are a tasty appetizer or main dish perfect for game day, parties, or any casual gathering. Tender chicken wings coated in a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce are baked until crispy in the oven, making them healthier than traditional fried wings without sacrificing flavor.
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Set aside.
Pat 2 pounds chicken wings with paper towels to dry them. Place the chicken wings in a medium-sized mixing bowl and drizzle wings with 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil. Add 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper toss wings until evenly coated.
Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping wings halfway through. The wings will be golden brown and crispy.
While the wings are baking, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a small saucepan, over medium-high heat, whisk 1 cup BBQ sauce and 2 Tablespoon honey until heated through.
Once the wings are almost cooked, remove from the oven and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Pour the BBQ sauce mixture over the wings and toss until they are evenly coated in the sauce.
Return the sauced wings to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
Remove the baked BBQ chicken wings from the oven. Optional, garnish with chopped diced green onions .
