Make-ahead, storage, and freezer tips
Storage - Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The fruit pizza will stay fresh for up to two days.
Freezing Tips - For longer storage, freeze the baked cookie crust separately. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in an airtight container for up to a month. Thaw in the fridge before assembling the pizza.
Eileen's Tips for Success
- Use soft dough: The tube-style cookie dough works better than pre-cut varieties for creating a smooth, even crust.
- Slice strawberries evenly: This helps create neat, uniform stripes. A sharp knife ensures clean cuts.
- Chill for easier assembly: If your whipped topping feels too soft, place it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before spreading it on the cookie base.
- Change the pan: Don’t have a round pan? A square or rectangular dish, or a baking sheet, will work just as well for this American flag pizza recipe.

Variations
Do you want to change up this flag dessert recipe? Here are some ways to change the flavor of this dish.
- Gluten-Free Option: Swap the traditional sugar cookie dough with a gluten-free version.
- Whipped Topping Layer: Use a cream cheese frosting instead of the whipped cream layer.
- Frosting: Vanilla or buttercream frosting would also work well instead of whipped topping.
