👩🏻🍳 Eileen's Tips for Success
- For easy cleanup, spray the baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- For golden brown cheese on top, pop the casserole under the broiler for a couple of minutes to brown the top. Just watch it closely so it doesn't burn.
📖 Variations
Here are some ways to vary the flavors of the recipe.
- Pasta: Use any shape of small pasta you have on hand. I like to use bowtie pasta or round-shaped pasta.
- Sauce: I use homemade marinara sauce. A store-bought pasta sauce can be used for this recipe.
- Add-ins: Saute mushrooms, onions, or bell peppers in a large skillet until tender, and add them to the pasta mixture before you bake the casserole.
❄️ Make ahead, storage, and freezer tips
Make ahead - One great thing about this casserole is that it's easy to make ahead. Prep the casserole up to the baking step, instead of baking it, wrap it in plastic wrap and store it in the fridge until you are ready to bake.
Storage - You can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Freezing - This casserole freezes well. Just wrap it with plastic wrap and aluminum foil to keep it fresh. Thaw it in the fridge overnight before baking.
