    There's no need to work in the kitchen all morning when you can make this Easy Overnight French Toast Casserole. Simply assemble the casserole the night before and bake it in the morning for this crowd-pleasing, delicious breakfast that everyone will love.

    • french bread, torn into 1-inch pieces, about 15 ounces
    • light brown sugar
    • ground cinnamon
    • salt
    • whole milk
    • large eggs
    • vanilla extract

    Step by step overnight french toast casserole steps.
    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray an 8" x 8" casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
    2. Place all of the torn bread pieces into the prepared casserole dish and set aside.
    3. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over the torn bread.
    4. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
    5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, coating completely.
    6. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and place it in the refrigerator overnight.
    7. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and leave the aluminum foil on the casserole dish. Bake the covered casserole for 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and continue to cook for 20-25 minutes until well browned and no uncooked egg remains. (An inserted toothpick will come out a bit damp but should not be wet.)
    8. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and continue to cook for an additional 20-25 minutes, The casserole will be well browned and no uncooked egg remains. (An inserted toothpick will come out a bit damp but should not be wet.)
    9. Serve with your favorite maple syrup and confectioners sugar as toppings.

    ❄️ Make ahead, storage, and freezer tips

    Store leftovers in a covered airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

    Reheat the leftovers in the microwave, or in the oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes.

    Freezer Instructions: To make this ahead of time, prepare the casserole and place the uncooked casserole in the freezer in a freezer-friendly casserole dish or foil pan. Cover with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil to seal up the casserole.

    The casserole can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    When ready to cook, remove the casserole from the freezer, and defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Follow the heating instructions in the recipe card below.

    If you do not have time to let the casserole sit in the fridge overnight, you can bake it right away. Just increase the baking time by 5-10 minutes.
