    💭 Eileen's Tips for Success

    • Make sure that you allow the cupcakes to cool completely before you frost them, otherwise, the frosting may melt.
    • For this recipe, you can make a batch of your favorite vanilla frosting or buttercream frosting or pick up a few cans of store-bought.
    • To make loading the piping bag easy, you can spread the frosting into rows on a piece of plastic wrap. Then roll the plastic wrap up into a cone shape and cut off the tip and add to the piping bag. It will give the same swirl look but it's a little easier to add the frosting.
    • Don't overbake these space-themed cupcakes otherwise, they will be dry and hard.

    📋 Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get the swirl frosting look?

To get the swirl frosting, you will layer the frosting in the piping back so that it comes out at the same time but doesn't make it together.

    Can I freeze cupcakes?

Yes, galaxy cupcakes can be frozen. I recommend freezing them unfrosted but they can also be frozen frosted.

Can I make these cupcakes in advance?

Yes, you can make them up to 24 hours in advance.

    📖 Variations

Do you want to change up this recipe? Here are some ways that you increase the flavor of this dish.

    • Instead of chocolate cake mix, you can switch it out and use your favorite cake mix, like vanilla or white cake mix for these planet-themed cupcakes.
    • If you don't want to make the swirl frosting, you could also use just black or dark blue frosting for these space cupcakes.
    • Can't find speckled jelly beans? Edible rocks would work instead also.

⭐ Make ahead, storage, and freezer tips

Storage - These cupcakes can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Freezing - If you need to freeze the cupcakes, wrap each one individually in plastic wrap and then place them into a freezer bag. They will stay fresh for up to 3 months.
