🔪 Instructions
This is an overview of the recipe. The full instructions are below in the recipe card.
- In a small bowl, mix together the warm water and yeast. Let sit for five minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar and let sit for five minutes. Then add water and yeast to the flour mixture.
- In a stand mixer, use a dough hook, or on a lightly floured work surface using your hands, knead the dough for one minute until it forms a ball.
- Transfer the dough ball to a lightly floured flat surface such as a clean kitchen counter or cutting board. Divide the ball into eight sections.
- Take each section and roll the dough into a long rope from 15 to 20 inches depending on the size of your hotdog.
- Twist the rope around the hotdog four times. Pinch the ends of the rope to another piece of the pretzel rope so that your pretzel rope stays secure on the dog.
- Spray the basket of your air fryer with cooking spray. Add each pretzel dog to the basket of the air fryer. It depends on the size of your air fryer how many pretzel dogs you can fit at once, just make sure to not overcrowd the basket because the pretzel dough will expand.
- Spray each pretzel dog with cooking spray lightly.
- Cook your pretzel dogs for five to seven minutes at 390°F or until lightly browned on top.
- Once done cooking, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with pretzel salt.
- Remove from the air fryer basket onto a serving plate and enjoy! Best served with mustard, ketchup, cheese dipping sauce, or spicy mustard! Enjoy!
💭 Eileen's Tips for Success
- The size of the air fryer basket varies so when adding the hot dogs, be sure to give enough room in between the hot dogs as the dough will expand.
- Prep your pretzel dogs and keep in the fridge until ready to make in the air fryer.

⭐ How to store, reheat, and freeze
Leftovers: Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight covered container for 2 days.
Reheat in the air fryer or oven for about 4-5 minutes to warm through.
Make Ahead: For those who love to make their meals ahead of time, these air fryer pretzel dogs are perfect for make-ahead meals.
Freezer Instructions: Cook the hot dogs in the pretzel dough as the recipe states. Then place the cooked hot dogs on a baking sheet in the freezer until they are frozen, about an hour. This prevents the dough from sticking together in the freezer bag.
Once the hot dogs are frozen they can be placed in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. The pretzel dogs can be cooked frozen in the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F, place your pretzel dogs in the basket, cook about 15 -20 minutes until they are cooked through.
