👩🏻🍳 Eileen's Tips for Success
- Make sure that you use room temperature ingredients for both the cookie dough and frosting this will give you a smooth cookie dough and sweet frosting.
- Once you add the dry ingredients to your sugar cookie dough be careful to not overmix. Overmixing will cause the dough to be tough.
- I like to use a baking mat to keep the bottom of the cookies from browning too much. But, parchment paper can be used instead.
- If your cookies are not perfectly round, while they are warm gently roll them inside the top of a glass to fix their shape.
- I've found that using jimmie-style sprinkles works best on top of these homemade cookies.
📖 Variations
Do you want to change up this recipe? Here are some ways that you increase the flavor of this dish.
- You can change the flavor of the cookie dough by using almond extract instead of vanilla extract.
- For a little extract flavor in your frosting feel free to add a few drops of peppermint extract to give your frosting a hint of mint flavor.
- Use different food coloring to change up the colors to suit the holiday. For example, you can use red and pink frosting for Valentine's Day or green for St. Patrick's Day.
- Vegetable oil can be used in place of canola oil, if you choose to use a different oil make sure that it is a neutral flavor oil.
