What you need to make these brownies

- All-purpose flour
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Granulated Sugar
- Corn Starch
- Olive Oil or vegetable oil
- Eggs
- Vanilla Extract
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Chocolate Chips (I used milk chocolate chips)
- To decorate;
- sugar eyes
- black cookie icing

- 8" x 8" square baking pan
How to make Hocus Pocus Brownies
This is an overview of the recipe. The full instructions are below in the recipe card.
Step 1: Heat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray an 8✕8-inch square metal baking pan with non-stick baking spray. Place a piece of parchment paper in the baking pan.
Step 2: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients of flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients, sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
The egg mixture should be smooth as pictured below.
Step 4: Add cocoa powder to the egg mixture. Whisk until smooth and glossy, about 1 minute. Use a spatula to fold the dry ingredients into the egg and cocoa mixture until combined.
Step 5: Stir in chocolate chips into the brownie batter. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes in the preheated oven. Put a toothpick into the center of the brownies and it should come out clean when baking is complete and the brownies are done baking.
Step 6: Let brownies cool completely. Decorate them with chocolate cookie icing and the jumbo candy eyes.
Make-ahead, storage, and freezer tips
Keep the brownies in a covered airtight container. If they are not all eaten, they can be kept for up to 3-4 days.

- Be sure to let the brownies cool completely before decorating to ensure the chocolate does not melt on the brownies.
- I find it easiest to slice the brownies and then decorate them.

- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup chocolate chip morsels milk chocolate is our preference
- non-stick baking spray
Decorate the brownies
- Candy eyes
- 9 ounce chocolate icing Note 1
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly spray an 8✕8-inch square metal baking pan with non-stick baking spray. Place a piece of parchment paper in the pan.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together ¾ cup all-purpose flour , 1 Tablespoon cornstarch, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and ½ teaspoon salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 cup granulated sugar, ½ cup vegetable oil , 3 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract until smooth
- To the sugar mixture, whisk in ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder until smooth and glossy, about 1 minute.
- Add flour mixture to cocoa mixture and mix, using a spatula, until combined.
- Stir in ½ cup chocolate chip morsels.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes. Use a toothpick, stick it into the center of the brownies, it should come out clean when the brownies are baked through.
- Let brownies cool completely before decorating with the 9 ounce chocolate icing and Candy eyes
NOTES
- Slice the brownies into 9 pieces. Drop a dot of black icing onto each brownie. Secure a candy eye to each spot.
- Based on your decorating preference, draw a chocolate line around each eye in the shape of a circle or diamond.
- Along one side of the brownie piece, draw a straight line with the chocolate and then a squiggly line next to it.
