    • light brown sugar
    • white granulated sugar

    • pure vanilla extract

    Instructions

    Steps to make M&M cookies for Easter.

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place parchment paper on a large baking sheet. Set aside.
    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside
    3. In a large mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer, cream the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until fluffy and well combined, about 5-7 minutes.
    4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and beat until blended after each egg is added, then mix in the vanilla extract.
    5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet mixture, scraping down the sides as needed. (Do not overmix the dough)
    6. Use a spatula to fold in the chocolate chips and M&Ms.
    7. Using a medium cookie scoop to form even-sized cookie dough. Place on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Press extra M&Ms into the top of each cookie dough ball. (Note 3)
    8. Bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes. The sides and bottoms of the cookies will be golden brown.
    9. Allow the cookies to cool 5 to 7 minutes on the cookie sheets before transferring them to a wire rack to completely cool.

    Storage

    The cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

    These chocolate chip M&M cookies can be made ahead and frozen for a later day. Freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator.

    Expert Tip: To make holiday chocolate chip M&M cookies softer, bake for 8 minutes. For crispier cookies, bake 10 minutes.

    Do M&Ms melt in the oven?

    M&Ms will not melt in the oven. They will remain intact and their colors will not change.

    Can you freeze Easter M&M cookies?

    Easter M&M Cookies can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.

    Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted?

    Yes, however, if you are using salted butter, use ¼ teaspoon of salt.

    Variations

    • To make 4th of July chocolate chip cookies with M&M's use red, white and blue M&M's.
    • For Christmas use red and green M&M's.
    • You can also make these cookies for St. Patrick's Day, Halloween or even Valentine's Day.
    • If you enjoy nuts, you can add in ½ cup of your favorite chopped nut.
    • Sprinkles can be even more fun. Add ¼ cup of sprinkles to the dough before folding in the chocolate chips.
    • Instead of M&M's you can use Reese's Pieces for a sweet peanut butter flavor.

    Note 3: If you prefer a softer, chewier cookie, place the baking sheet with the cookie dough balls, covered in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 60 minutes before baking.
