    • spiral sliced bone-in ham
    • unsalted butter, divided
    • maple syrup, divided
    • light brown sugar
    • crushed pecans
    • large sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 325°F/163°C. Be sure the oven rack is in the center of the oven.
    2. Remove ham from the package and discard the liquid from the packaging. Place the ham cut side down in a large baking dish or roasting pan.
    3. Place your cut sweet potatoes in the pan around the ham.
    4. In a small microwave-safe bowl melt 4 Tablespoons of butter.
    5. To the butter stir in ½ cup of maple syrup.
    6. Brush the ham with the butter syrup mixture.
    7. Place the ham into the oven to cook for 1 ½ to 2 hours (20 minutes per pound). You want to remove it 30 minutes before it is done.
    8. When it has 30 minutes left to cook, remove it from the oven.
    9. In a small mixing bowl stir together to combine the brown sugar with the pecans.
    10. Place this mixture all over the ham. Return the ham to the oven to finish cooking.
    11. To make the final glaze, In a small saucepan over medium heat combine 4 tablespoons of butter and the remaining ½ cup of maple syrup.
    12. While whisking, bring this mixture up to a slight bubble and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
    13. Remove the ham from the oven and drizzle the ham with the glaze.
    14. Slice and serve!

    How to store, reheat, and freeze

    Storage - Store leftover ham in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

    Reheating - When ready to serve, reheat ham in a 325-degree F oven until heated through.

    Freezing - Leftover ham can be stored in a freezer-safe bag or container for up three months.

    • A dash of vanilla or cinnamon would also be lovely in this dish. Just be careful and only use a small amount.
    • While maple syrup is delicious if all you have is pancake syrup that will work for the spiral ham glaze. Just remember, pure maple syrup is the best choice.

    NOTES

    Tips: 
    • Before cooking make sure there is no plastic cap on the bone on the cut side of the ham.
    • Store leftovers in a covered airtight container for up to 3-5 days.
    • You can also store your leftover ham in the freezer for up to 2 months.
    • You can cook this in the slow cooker. Just remove it from the slow cooker and add the pecans and brown sugar and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
    • You can add carrots to the sweet potatoes as well.
    • A dash of vanilla or cinnamon would also be lovely in this dish.
