Make-ahead, storage, and freezer tips
Storage - Air-fried burgers are best fresh and immediately. However, if you have leftovers, they will keep in a covered airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes until warmed through. You can also reheat the burgers in the microwave for 30-60 seconds

Eileen's Tips for Success
- For easy cleanup, line the air fryer with aluminum foil or parchment paper, which will also keep the burgers cooking in their own juices.
- It is recommended to use an instant-read meat thermometer. The internal temperature of a cooked hamburger should be 160°F/71°C.
- I recommend using 80/20 ground beef as the higher fat is more flavorful.
- Don't forget the thumbprint in the center patty. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from shrinking.
- To prevent the patties from drying out when you reheat them, use a skillet with a lid on the stovetop with a few tablespoons of water. Reheating this way will add moisture back to the burgers, preventing them from drying out.
Variations
Want to change up this recipe? Here are some ways to change the flavor of this dish.
- Additional Flavor: Add any of these to the meat before cookings: BBQ sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Teriyaki Sauce, or mustard.
- Spice: If you like spicy air fryer hamburgers, you can season them with Cajun seasoning, Homemade Seasoning Salt, or chili powder and onion powder.
- Protein: Use ground turkey or chicken instead of ground beef.
- You could also make sliders in the air fryer by dividing the ground beef into 12 small patties instead of 3 large ones.
Frequently Asked Questions
Cooking time will depend on the thickness of your burger. For a 1-inch-thick burger, cook for 5 minutes, flip, and then cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Burgers should be cooked at 350°F/182°C in the air fryer.
Yes, you will need to flip the burgers during cooking. I recommend using tongs or a spatula for flipping so you don't puncture the burger and let all the juices out.

Air Fryer Hamburgers
Equipment
Ingredients
Instructions
- Divide 1 pound ground beef into 3 even amounts. Mold and flatten into a patty. Make sure the center of the patty is thinner than the edge portion. This will allow for an even cook and maintain the size proportions as it cooks.
- Season the patties evenly on both sides with ½ teaspoon kosher salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.
- Place the burgers in the air fryer basket. I like to line my air fryer with aluminum for easy clean-up as well as keeping the patties in the juice.
- Cook at 350°F for 5 minutes, flip the burgers and cook an additional 5 minutes for a medium well hamburger. Longer or shorter than 2 minutes for the desired cook. For cheeseburgers, after cooking for 5 minutes, flip the burgers and cook an additional 4 minutes. Then top each burger with one of the 3 slices American cheese and cook for 1 more minute.
- To assemble, open each of the 3 hamburger buns and place the cheeseburger on the bottom bun with some of the 1 cup iceburg lettuce, shredded1 medium tomato (sliced thin), a slice of the 1 small yellow onion (thinly sliced), and Thousand Island dressing and add the top bun.
- Serve and enjoy.
